A human rights complaint against the Town of Claresholm, filed by a former member of council, has been dismissed.

The complaint was filed by Donna Courage, who was a councillor at the time, but has since resigned.

Mayor Doug MacPherson says the Town received a letter stating the complaint had been dismissed as there is no reason to proceed.

"It is a relief it is over with," said MacPherson. "We weren't terribly worried about it because of the nature of the complaint. It was a complaint based on if you were an employee. It was dismissed because as an elected official you are treated differently than if you are an employee."

MacPherson says under section seven of the act there was found to be no reason to keep it on so it was dismissed.

It took a year for the complaint to work its way through the system.
