Drivers, or those walking the Happy Trails along 12th Avenue West around 2nd Street in High River, have probably noticed a big tree branch with yellow warning tape around it most of the weekend.

The Town of High River's Arborist, Darlene Donovan says it snapped off early in the morning Saturday, August 25.

"The Fire Department received a call around 3:30 in the morning on Saturday, about the limb being across the road. It's hard to say why the limb failed. It could have been hit by a vehicle, or it could have just failed on it's own due to the weight of the limb."

Donovan says even though the trees are in good health and are assessed annually, these things happen.

"It's no uncommon. The weight of the leaves sometimes is enough for those outstretched branches to start coming down. We try to prune to prevent that if we can. So, that's something we'll be looking to do on those trees there."

No one was hurt, and Donovan says they'll be out cleaning it up in the next day or so.
