UCP Leader Jason Kenney wants the NDP to call the election now, not later.

In a campaign style speech to reporters Friday, February 1, Kenney says the NDP need to stop campaigning using taxpayer money and drop the writ.

The NDP have been after Kenney over what they say will be the UCP's desire to cut spending to health and education among other things if they're elected.

Kenney says it's typical NDP thinking.

"Well, get used to it. She's (Premier Rachel Notley) trying to scare Albertans for the next several weeks or months. That's all they have really. They can't defend their disastrous economic record. They can't defend having presided over the longest period of economic decline and stagnation in our province's modern economic history."

By law the election needs to be called between the beginning of March to the end of May.
