Convicted murderer, Bradley Paetsch, is seeking more freedoms after receiving a life sentence for killing Okotoks teen, Stephanie Spooner in her own home back in 1991.

Paetsch has changed his name to Tristan Ryan, and was convicted for repeatedly stabbing 16-year-old Spooner after she said she wanted to break up with him and was seeing someone else.

Paetsch was 18 years old at the time of the killing, and first started receiving un-escorted passes from prison in September of 2016.

Spooner’s brother, Rene, was only 12 years old when his sister was killed.

"She could have been anything she wanted to be. She was smart, beautiful. Everybody wanted to be like her."

Now after 28 years in prison, Ryan is looking to get more freedoms while awaiting a decision from the parole board on work release programs and spend time with his wife, whom he married while in prison.

The Parole Board of Canada says Ryan has been doing well with his freedoms, particularly with the employment he's found.
