Highwood MLA Wayne Anderson is facing a challenge as he looks for the nomination for the UCP heading into the next Provincial Election.

Contain-A-Way Owner, Dean Leask, is going to take a run at that nomination.

Leask, who's spent a lot of time working on political campaigns in these parts at all levels, says he feels he needs to throw his hat in the ring.

"With the way that the Province has gone the last three years and you know, things like the big deficits and how much people are hurting here, my wife and my family and I took a look at it figured it's something really important and feel very strongly that we need to have good people up in Edmonton to turn this Province around."

He says going head on against Anderson won't be easy.

"When you're going against a sitting MLA it's always a challenge. Of course the nomination process is very key in this riding. What we're going to do is, I have a very good extensive network in the Highwood Riding and we're going to go to work and sell memberships and do our best to win this thing."

Leask says it's not his first foray into politics, but it is his first time his name will appear on a ballot.

"I've always been either running campaigns, working on boards. I also sat on the Provincial board of the Wildrose Party as their Policy Chair. This is the first time I will actually be a politician, beforehand I was mostly doing the behind the scenes work. So this will be a whole new venture for us."

Leask is going through the vetting process now, and if he passes, he and Anderson will go toe-to-toe for the nomination over the next few months.

In the Livingstone/Macleod Riding, the declared candidates are Justin Murphy, who took a run at a Council seat in High River in last October's Municipal Election, and Roger Reid, who's the owner of the Tim Horton's in both Nanton and Claresholm and is the Chair of the Claresholm and District Health Care Foundation.

UCP members will vote on who gets the candidacy between now and next Spring's provincial election.
