Teenagers from the Foothills will be selected to spend a week learning the ins and outs of being an entrepreneur.

Community Futures Highwood and the Okotoks and High River Rotary Clubs are sponsoring six students to attend Alberta Youth Entrepreneurship Camp for a week at Eagle's Nest Camp in Cypress Hills.

Ursula Sherwood, business analyst with Community Futures Highwood, says the camp gives students a thorough experience of what it takes to be an entrepreneur.

"They have to come up with a business idea, they do the business plan development, they get the loan, they actually go into Medicine Hat to buy supplies, produce the product, and sell it to parents and other people who come at the end of camp."

She says the camp is beneficial for students in multiple ways.

"From understanding what it takes to really run a business to getting information about how banking works, what loans are... they probably know more than some adults do at that point of time. They can also apply for high school credits."

Sherwood adds students who've been to the camp as a participants have the option to attend as a councillor where they can earn further high school credits.

The camp runs from Aug. 14-20.
