The High River Library has officially dropped the word "centennial" from their title.

Deb Gardner with the library says they decided this is the right time for the change as they are back in their location on first street.

"We just thought when we were moving back here that it might be time to remove the "centennial" from our name."

She notes their original name was difficult for some people to understand.

"It is somewhat confusing to people. No, no we haven't been here for a hundred years, and no we haven't been here since 1967. So it seemed like it's a time to drop the centennial and have more clarity in our naming. So it's now the High River Library"

Gardner says their previous name has a history dating back to 1967.

"We've been known locally as the High River Centennial Library, and that goes back to Canada's centennial in 1967, when there was some funding from the federal government. It at that time had allowed for an expansion of the library from one space in the Memorial Centre to a larger space."

Gardner explains that they hope to provide clarity with their name change.
