The High River Centennial Library is still undergoing rehabilitation after the June 2013 flood.

Head Librarian Deb Gardner says crews are working as hard and as fast as they can to make it all come together but there's no firm date for their return.

"There's some major work being done so there's the whole H-VAC system, the heating and cooling has to be re-done, the electrical and the plumbing, so it's a busy this and they're trying to get us back in as soon as they can," Gardner says. "So we're looking forward to it, but no firm date at this time."

Gardner says the building already had some issues before the flood happened, which they hoped they could address but then the flood came along and, as with any renovation, anytime you open up a wall there's a chance you might find something unexpected.

She says one big change is the W.O. Mitchell Theatre is being turned into a meeting space.

"We will not be having the theatre on the lower level, which is a disappointment but logistically it was quite an issue because, to bring us back up to code we needed to have a lot more bathrooms and if we had to have a lot more bathrooms we were going to lose other meeting space," she says. "And so the decision was made to turn the theatre space into meeting room space."

The sunken floor will be raised and there will a large meeting space that can be divided into two smaller rooms.

Work on the north and west sides of the building.

Garner says they hope to be back in the building around Thanksgiving time in October although there's nothing cast in stone.

In the meantime they're still operating out of the Sprung structures west of CO-OP.
