The group 100 Women Who Care Okotoks and Area handed over its latest donation cheque Monday night.

Karen Love with the group handed over the money raised to Sue Stegmeier with Lit For Life.

"We have raised $3,900 for Literacy for Life from our third meeting of 100 Women Who Care Okotoks and Area," Love says.

Stegmeier says they'll use the money for the Books For Babies program which provides books to parents with-in 48 hours after a child is born to start them on the path to literacy. The money will be used to purchase the books and they also give out an envelope at the parent's 16 month visit, education parents and caregivers about the need to start reading to children right at the beginning.

"It's excellent," Stegmeier says of the donation, "It helps us to be able to make sure that this program keeps going, books are expensive so it means a lot."

100 Women Who Care Okotoks and Area are looking for more women to join them with their next meeting set for August 4 at the Crystal Ridge Golf Club.
