While it might still be winter outside, organizers with the Little Britches Parade are asking the community to start making plans for the May long weekend.

Parade Chair Hank Leeferink says this year is special as it is the 60th anniversary.

"When it is minus 24 no one is thinking about parades at all," said Leeferink. "The theme this year is a salute to the service clubs of High River."

The idea is to promote everything the service clubs have done in 60 years in High River.

"From building the Rec-plex to moving the Memorial Centre to its present location to all the parks in town. Either the Lions club, Rotary, Kinsmen, Kinettes and the Active Club have built those things. Without the support of service clubs over the last 60 years the Little Britches Parade wouldn't have made it 60 years."

He adds that's one way to say thank you to all the clubs.

He adds the Active Club use to run a bike-a-thon where the kids would come in with their bikes and get them fixed up.

The Rotarty Club use to maintain the swimming hole.

So he is asking people to put on their thinking caps and come up with some createive ways to pay tribute to the service clubs.

And if that doesn't work it would be nice to have a sign thanking the service clubs on every float.

The Saturday date for the parade is a success for everyone involved.

"The biggest thing on why we moved it was to help the merchants in downtown High River when we have that kind of a crowd in downtown hopefully the merchants are there and they are getting some business from it."

They are expecting 85 to 90 floats and entries and the Shriners count as one entry.

"We are hoping everyone will come back in bigger and better from than ever before just to say thanks for 60 years of enjoyment."

Entries must be in by May 10.

Parade day is May 18.
