Eight more trees have been added to the green space in High River after Wednesday night's Memorial Tree Program ceremony.

Urban Forester for the Town of High River Darlene Donovan says it means a lot for families who've lost a loved one to be able to memorialize them with a tree.

"It does, I think people like the idea of a living memorial, they can come here year after year and see it grow and it's great for all generations of the families," she says.

Since 2010, a total of 79 trees have been planted in either George Lane Park or Riverside Park in the northwest.

Councillor Cathy Couey spoke about her family's long connection to George Lane Park, the old wading pool and graduations for herself and her son in the park.
