The Province of Alberta is challenging Ontario's stance on importing products from Alberta, specifically beer from micro-breweries.

Pam Lyken is one of the owners of Hard Knox Brewery in Black Diamond.

She says here in Alberta she's competing with other micro-breweries from across the country, but can't get her products into Ontario.

"On the shelves there's craft breweries from every province. We allow everything into Alberta. We don't stop anybody."

She says they're looking at selling their products in B.C. and Saskatchewan in the near future, but would like to take crack at the Ontario market if the Alberta Government's challenge is successful.

She agrees with Alberta's Economic Development and Trade Minister Deron Bilous when he says, “It doesn't make any sense that it’s easier to sell Alberta beer in Tokyo than it is in Toronto. It’s unacceptable. We're fighting for the Alberta craft liquor manufacturers who create good jobs here in our province. They deserve a level playing field to sell their products across the country, without unfair trade barriers. We need more trade, not less.”
