Some High River residents may have noticed some flickering lights around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, as their power was interrupted for a few seconds.

Corporate Communications Advisor with Fortis Alberta, Mona Bartsoff, says your eyes weren't playing tricks on you.

They did have an issue.

"What happened this morning was that a farmer was pulling a grain auger behind his truck and contacted a power line. I'm happy to say he was not injured. But it's a good reminder and opportunity to let other farmers in the area know they need to plan their work carefully."

She says farmers need to be aware of the power lines they're working around.

Bartsoff says it's not the first one of these they've seen this Spring.

"This year we've already seen a few incidents occur in Southern Alberta as farmers are getting busy and working in their fields. We would like to just remind everyone to be safe. Your safety is our top priority as well."

She says the big issue is that farm equipment has doubled in size since the 1950's.

She says farmers need to know the height and size of their equipment, which can't be higher than 17.5 feet, or 5.3 metres to fit under power lines.

She says call 310-WIRE (9473) and they'll be happy to come out and help you navigate around or through overhead power lines.
