Foothills MP John Barlow is frustrated with Liberals for refusing to support Wynn's Law.

RCMP Constable David Wynn was killed and another officer was wounded when they were confronted by a man who had been released on bail when the judge was unaware he already had 30 charges against him.

John Barlow says the private member's bill would have corrected that.

"The essence of Wynn's Law is that when a perpetrator, criminal goes for a bail hearing, right now it's not mandatory for the prosecutors to present to the judge that criminal's history, any outstanding warrants, any previous charges, as part of a bail hearing," he says. What Wynn's Law would do is make that mandatory, so prosecutors would have to present to the judge any outstanding warrants or any previous charges of that person so the judge could take that into consideration when setting bail."

He says if it had been the case Constable Wynn and the other officer probably would never had confronted Steven Rehn in St. Albert.

He says the Liberals belief is, making it mandatory would add more to the workloads of prosecutors and cost time, but Barlow says it wouldn't add much time at all and the lives of our first responders are worth it.

Barlow wants his constituents and Canadians across the country to write to the justice minister to get the bill passed and provide more protection for first responders.
