Campers looking to get an early start on the season by heading to the George Lane Park Campground in High River will have to wait a couple of extra weeks this year.

Usually the campground's good to go for their May 1 opening, but thanks to the combined efforts of Mother Nature and Old Man Winter, The Town's delayed opening the Campground until Tuesday May 15, this year.

They say they need time for the snow to melt and the ground to dry out before letting people in to camp.

Spokesperson for the park and campground for the Lion's Club, Tom Carson, says the snow has also delayed some of the work that still needs to be done before opening.

"The Town has been trying to get in to do trimming and pruning on the trees in the campground and the park area, but because of the snow pack and the depth of the snow, they've not been able to get it done."

Carson says, the Town will start the work on Monday, April 23.

"I've been looking after the campground here for about 10 years," Carson says. "This is the first time we've had to delay an opening. Again, it's because of the excess snow this year."

He says the booking office is open, and can be reached at 403-652-2529.
