There was a little game of Hare and Hound taking place in the sky over High River on the evening of September 26th.

It was Media Night as the Heritage Inn International Hot Air Balloon Festival got under way.

Calgary pilot Del Michaud was the hare that the hounds had to chase and he had a few tricks up his sleeve.

His balloon was the first one up in the sky and the hounds, the later balloons had to follow him and then drop a marker on an x that he added to the ground.

Only one balloon was able to hit the mark.

"The way that they steer a balloon do that is that they go to different elevations where the wind will be in a different direction," said Michaud. "Sometimes it doesn't work that well."

He says you have to be at the perfect altitude to do that so it is a lot harder than it seems.

He has been to High River for all five of the balloon festivals.

"High River is just a real nice place to fly balloons because they have beautiful big open fields, especially at this time of the year when they crops are off."
