The next time High River Town Council meets it'll be short one member.

Peter Loran stepped down at the last meeting after taking a job in Chilliwack B.C.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says Loran brought a unique perspective to discussions.

"Where Peter guided this whole organization, I don't think enough can be said about that and it's something that the public didn't see but it's something that I appreciate, probably more than anything," Snodgrass says.

The mayor says the culture and the way the Town operates internally affects everything they do and whether things are done correctly and Loran was phenomenal in guiding council to move toward the way it needed to operate.

Councillor Emile Blokland says Loran's input will be missed.

"A very, very quiet man but when he speaks everybody listens," he says. "There is so much wisdom coming out of his past experiences that he brings to council, he's definitely been an incredible asset to our council and we're going to miss him."

Bruce Masterman, another fellow councillor praised Loran's business acumen.

"He started talking like the business executive he is and using all these buzz phrases and the corporate talk, but he brought meaning to it, for me, a guy who doesn't talk like that he really explained what it means and why it's important, especially to an organization like the Town of high river," Masterman says.

A by-election has been set for October 17, with nomination day September 19.
