Road construction on Macleod Trail in front of Spitzee School is scheduled to be finished and the road re-opened on September 5, just in time for the first day of school.

Sidewalks were being poured this week and the paving should go ahead next week.

Engineer coordinator Jim Duckworth with the Town of High River says they tried to have the work done by September 1 but there were a couple of problems once they dug down into the road to work on the utilities.

"The depth of the existing water lines that cross on third street, there are four lines, they were a little bit different than what we anticipated," said Duckworth. "So we spent quite a bit of time changing those elevations so we could accommodate the services coming from the west."

Then the ATCO gas pipeline was too shallow so that had to be changed as well.

So it will take until the end of the month to finish up the road on 3rd street on the east side of the school.

The Town and the Foothills School Division also worked together to redesign the road in front of the school to make it safer.

"We have developed a formal bus pull out that accommodates six or seven buses."
