Okotoks area landowner, Eddie Maurice, could be heading back into a courtroom.

This time as the defendant in a lawsuit filed by the man convicted of mischief and failing to comply with a court order, who was shot by Maurice in February of 2018, when Maurice home with his baby daughter was confronted by Ryan Watson and another person, rummaging through his vehicles.

Maurice fired two warning shots from a .22 calibre rifle, however a ricochet hit Watson in the arm sending him to hospital and leading to Maurice's arrest and subsequent charges, including aggravated assault.

After six court appearances, the Crown dropped the charges against Maurice, while Watson was given a 45 day sentence, after pleading guilty to charges of mischief and failure to comply with a court order.

He walked free from the courtroom because of time served in pre-trial custody.

The Province of Alberta had also jumped on the lawsuit as they looked to recover damages and the costs of medical treatment for Watson, but Alberta Justice Minister, Doug Schweitzer, moved quickly to kill that lawsuit.

He's also encouraging Albertan's to once again come to Maurice's defence and help him raise money for a lawyer.

Watson is looking for damages of $100,000 for what he claims is emotional upset, severe fatigue, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder and other pain.

None of the claims have been proven in court.

Maurice has yet to file a statement of defence.
