There were lots of smiles yesterday as volunteers throughout the community participated in McHAPPY DAY in High River and Okotoks.

Owner Maja Nuyt says one dollar from the purchase of every Big Mac, Happy Meal and McCafe beverage goes to the Ronald McDonald House.

"Once a year we solicit our communities for donations for the Ronald McDonald House in Calgary and this year we raised eight thousand dollars."

She says all of the money raised locally stays local.

She says donations are no longer being accepted at the store but you can still donate to the cause.

She says she credits the volunteers who donated their time to serve customers.

"We had the Mayors come through, the Police department, the Fire department, fantastic staff from the radio station and local banks."

She says McHAPPY DAY started in 1977 and continues to serve families and communities throughout Canada.

She says it all started almost forty years ago.

"Ronald McDonald said let's provide comfortable housing for these families where there's food provided by volunteers, and the whole family is welcome to stay there. It's a really positive environment and an important cause to donate to so they can keep providing that service."
