The issues of berms and buy-outs is back but this time it's residents of the Foothills MD who are affected.

MD Mayor Larry Spilak says after the release of scoping studies of the Highwood and Little Bow downstream from High River, some landowners were given options.

"Then we offered a one-on-one meeting with any of the landowners that wanted to participate and we've had many, in fact most have come forward and asked for an appointment with our staff and, of course the councillor for the area is sitting in on these meetings as well," Spilak says.

Landowners in some cases have been offered buy-outs where they can choose continue to use the land, or have berms placed around specific buildings on their properties.

Spilak says the MD will go to bat for any property owners who need help dealing with the province.

He says some of the landowners could be impacted by some of the work that's been done to protect High River in the event of another flood and the MD wants to make sure it stands up for its residents. He says the relationship with the town is still strong.

"High River and the MD have a longstanding reputation for working well together," he says. "Everything that the mayor and council have done here to protect High River they  have consulted with the MD and we know we have to give up a little to get a little, and so we have been talking back and forth and they totally understand that we have to take some further precautions now to protect our landowners."

The scoping study was released publicly in late May.
