Like a Phoenix, the Medicine Tree Manor in High River has risen from the ashes and is back in business.

The Chief Administrative Officer with Westwinds Community Lauren Ingalls says the province officially licensed the Manor on October 16.

"We coordinated our first resident admissions on October 24, we're pleased to share with the community, our first residents moving back were original residents of Medicine Tree at the time of the southern Alberta flood," Ingalls says."They moved in over the first two days which was wonderful, a real homecoming."

She says they now have 60 residents moved in and by later this month they'll be up to 85.

Ingalls says the residents are now settling in and finding their way around.

"It is a really big building, it's over four stories with most of the recreational amenities down on the lower level. We've got our dining room, lounge, bistro, family dining on the main floor, there's therapeutic spa services and Calgary Co-op here in High River is our pharmacist that's operating our tuck shop that'll open next week," she says.

Ingalls says the Town of High River has been amazing with the Planning department working to ensure they could get the building erected on time.

She's also happy that they're in the process of finalizing a settlement on their fire insurance payout.

Medicine Tree Manor went up in flames Dec.15, 2015 just days before residents were to move back in after it had been rebuilt after the 2013 flood.

There are about 27 people employed at the Manor 24 hours a day. That includes food service with all the meals made in-house, recreation therapists, housekeeping security and administration.

An official public opening will be held in January.
