Parks Supervisor, Tannas Webb, says they'll be holding their annual Memorial Tree ceremony to recognize donors and the loved ones they've recognized by purchasing a tree.

"Anybody can buy a memorial tree or a memorial bench, the trees are $500 a tree and the benches are $1,200 and on both of those you get a plaque and, of course the maintenance of the tree," she says. "There are two kinds of preferred locations, one being George Lane Memorial Park here in town, as well as Tree Memorial Park off Riverside Drive in the northwest of High River."

She says each park has a large sign that holds plaques with information provided by the donors about the people or groups they are honouring.

Webb says the ceremony is held in conjunction with National Tree Day, a nationally recognized day.

A variety of evergreen and deciduous trees can be purchased each year including Siberian Larch,  Ponderosa Pine, Colorado Spruce, Northwestern Poplar, Bur Oak, American Elm and Ohio Buckeye.

This is the ninth year for the program which provides a living memorial to those who've helped shape the community

The ceremony starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday September 27.
