It was a great summer for shopping local at the Millarville Market.

The markets started in June at the Millarville Racetrack and brought in different vendors from all over southern Alberta.

Melonie McKee, market manager, says attendance was strong throughout the season.

"It was comparable to last year actually our numbers were up slightly, I think it was because we had great weather for all of our larger events that coincide with the market. We had a pretty good weather season it wasn't too bad, we did have a couple of rain days but people still come out and shop like crazy."

Next the focus is shifting onto the Foothills Holiday Roadshow and Okotoks Christmas Festival. Passes are currently on sale for eight dollars which will get visitors into both markets. The Millarville Christmas Market will take place Nov. 10-14 and anyone in uniform will get through the door at no cost.

McKee says it's great to see local businesses come together.

"I think this is the third year we've partnered with Okotoks for the Christmas Market so it's nice to bounce ideas off of each other too and get all the local businesses involved as well so we can drive some of that traffic their direction since they're out here anyways and in the shopping mood so it's nice to have the support of all these local businesses."

The last market of the season runs this Saturday and will feature a community garage sale in the arena.
