Foothills school board trustees got an update on the Education Plan for Millarville Community School at the board's last meeting.

Superintendent Chris Fuzessy says the Grades K-to-5 International Baccalaureate school has worked to increase some career pathway options.

"The true community nature of the school was highlighted with some great information about students mentoring each other and supporting each other as part of what, I guess makes Millarville school such a great place to be," he says.

He says their educational approach aligns with what the division's doing in terms of "Learning For Transfer".

"As a school division we've embarked upon that over the last couple of years and what it means is, it's kind of a concept based educational approach," Fuzessy explained. "So rather than looking at individual topics, what's a concept that we can explore. So the environment for example would be a good concept to explore from a variety of lenses and again that allows the student to opt in where they have an area of interest."

Fuzessy says from there they'd look at how those concepts could be transferred to other topics, like the economy and how those two topics affect each other.

He says students at the school are active in their own learning so they can follow their own interests.
