At the recent Alberta Workers Compensation Board Annual General Meeting, they revealed they're holding onto a surplus of $321-million, and the Canadian Federation of Independent Business says they should give it back.

Sentiments echoed by High River Chamber of Commerce President Steven Muth

"If their financial statements are correct and say they have over $300 million sitting there, that should be refunded. But yet, now finding excuses not to refund it. It is very disheartening and just makes their image of being this overbearing dictatorship even worse."

By it's own rules the WCB is required to refund any surplus over 128 per cent of it's assets-to-liabilities ratio.

The CFIB says the WCB's annual report shows their reserve at over 133 per-cent.

The CFIB has long been pushing for the threshold to trigger rebates to businesses be lowered closer to the 110 per cent mark.
