It was standing room only at the Nanton candidate forum on Wednesdsay, October 11.

The two Mayoral candidates and nine of 11 people running for Council presented a five minute speech and then meet with people for one-on-one questions.

Resident Laurie Henthorne says the forum helped her to decide who to vote for.

"Everyone had very interesting things to say about infrastructure especially," said Henthorne. "But Dave Mitchell pointed out how that is a concern everywhere. I like that several candidates talked about the work they would have to do and learning what the community needs and how to accomplish that."

She also says she was interested in the comments candidates made on respect for procedure and process because they need to learn how things are done, not just what needs doing.

Organizer Pam Woodall with the Chamber of Commerce said it was an excellent turnout.

"I'm really pleased to see that people are interested in the candidates and what they have to say," said Woodall. "I know there were some candidates people aren't familiar with, they are not names we see around town a lot, so I am glad people were willing to come out and just see who is running for council."

Town of Nanton Returning Officer Kevin Miller said he hopes the large turn out means a large turn out on Monday.

"I think tonight was a very good night," said Miller. "I think a lot of the candidates got their message out and I think Nanton residents have a lot to think about in the next five days as we head to the polls."
