The Town of Nanton's new waste water treatment plant had it's official ribbon cutting Tuesday, March 28.

Provincial Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Brian Mason was on hand and says the new $10 million plant shows his government's commitment to infrastructure here in the Foothills.

"We were very pleased to provide financial support to the Town, in order to reconstruct what was a very badly needed waste water treatment plant."

Mason says after touring the failing facilities shortly after coming into office, he was quick to spring into action to find funding.

"Waste water treatment is not exactly a "sexy" kind of item, but take it away and people miss it very quickly. So, it's very important for our public health and to make sure our public water courses aren't being polluted."

Also on hand were Livingstone-MacLeod MLA Pat Stier and Foothills MP John Barlow who all worked closely with Nanton Mayor Rick Everett on the project.

Everett praised all three levels of government for their cooperation in fast tracking the new plant.

It's expected to be up and running by June.
