Clearing roads of snow and ice is a hot button topic for many communities in Southern Alberta,

The Town of Nanton is hoping a new snow and ice removal policy, passed in November by Town Council, will help the situation.

Mayor Jennifer Handley says the plan is to provide a sustainable level of snow clearing to help the community get around on roads, sidewalks and pathways.

"One of the key things we adjusted in that policy was making sure that we have our key emergency roads and then we focus on the main artery roads and then the connector roads," said Handley.

The plan means anyone in Nanton only has to drive two blocks before they hit a road that will get them out of town.
