The Canadian Federation of Independent Business wants the changes made to the Temporary Foreign Worker program by the previous federal government undone.

The Vice-President for Alberta and B.C., Richard Truscott says problems with the program aren't front and centre like they used to be but it's still an important program.

"Certainly a lot of the pressure for small businesses to find qualified people to work in their establishments has been lessoned because of the economic downturn," Truscott says. "But there still are some pockets with-in Alberta, definitely smaller communities and more remote communities where there's very much a strong need to find more people to work in businesses."

He says the previous government made it very restrictive for employers to access the program.

They're making a presentation to the federal standing committee and the government and ministers to perhaps scrap the program entirely and start from scratch with a program that, Truscott says, better aligns with the jobs that are available and still provides a path to permanent residency.
