High Riverittes know where and when ATCO crews are working by the steel cages that pop up along streets in a particular part of the town.

Doug Brown, Senior Construction Manager for Calgary and area says it's part of making sure the system's reliable.

"We're doing steel main replacement and what that is is we're taking pipe that has been in service for a time period and we're upgrading it to a newer pipe," he says. That just makes sure our system's running as efficiently as possible and what we do is we put new mains in and we run new service lines to each house as well."

He says they do integrity tests on the pipes and replace it as needed. The 2013 flood didn't have anything to do with the work that's being done.

Brown says it's been really a great pleasure working in High River.

"High River's been a fantastic community for us to work in, we've been well received and we've even had some pre-school kids drop cookies off to the work crews out there, that would walk by every day," he says.

The cold has had an impact on the work, the ground has frozen and machinery takes time to warm up and as Brown says, the bodies' slow down and workers need to get inside to take breaks and stay warm.

They'll be be wrapping up the week of December 12, and will come back in the spring to finish the work.
