UCP candidate Nathan Neudorf has been discussing his personal politics when it comes to the expansive Livingstone-Macleod riding and some of the issues he would like to address leading up to the November election.

Neudorf says he's confident that the UCP will represent the diverse population in the riding.

"There is a very conservative movement in this whole area, they are looking for a change of government that will allow them to get back to work, along with the overall concerns with budget."

Neudorf says residents are not satisfied with the status quo and have growing concerns regarding government spending.

"Obviously we want to start with a change of government and a change of philosophy. I think the United Conservative government would represent the people in this area very well due to it's general trend towards the importance of fiscal responsibility. A smaller government in general, means that taxes will go down and then we can focus on regenerating the economy by welcoming back foreign investment."

Traveling around the riding, Neudorf says he's heard plenty of residents voice concerns with the carbon tax and the future of Alberta's economy.

"People have overall concerns with the budget. The carbon tax plays into that, along with (government) spending, deficit and debt. We all know that when you have those large deficits and debts you have to make cuts to try and balance it back. The flipside of that, is that you also have to reengage the economy because a strong economy increases income. There's two fronts you can deal with that on and both are felt within this region."

With local businesses in the riding relying on agricultural work and exports, Neudorf says his personal experience helps him relate to what residents in the riding need.

"I'm passionate about hard work and I want to work as hard as the people in this riding work and match their adaptability. I was born and raised on a small farm in Southern B.C. and grew up milking cows by hand, so I feel like I really identify with the fabric of the people."

The election date for the riding hasn't been announced yet, but it's expected to take place in November.
