Art of all kinds celebrating Canada's 150th birthday was the theme for this years new Town of High River Lamp Post banners.

The banners were unveiled at a special event at the library last week and will soon be in place on Centre Street.

Organizer Joyce Brown says, when you see the banners on the poles they look small, but they're actually six feet tall, so they look amazing on the ground.

"People got to come and see the banners in person at ground level and got their pictures taken beside them," said Brown. "It really astounds people when they find out they are over six feet."

All the submissions for the banners are from local artists and people had a chance to vote what they liked best and out of the 40 submitted, 20 were chosen.

She says the project brings life, excitement, colour and vibrancy to the town.

"As well it showcases all of the wonderful artists we have because every person that does enter and every banner that is up has a tie to High River. It really does let us know our neighbours."

The project originally started with a grant  from the flood renewal money, this year the Rotary Club of High River stepped in with a grant.

They've also raised some funds by selling the banners, although you do have to wait for two years until they come off the posts, and by selling books with pictures of all the art submitted.

They'll know by mid-September if they have funding in place for next year.

They're accepting donations if you would like to help out.
