It took a couple of tries but High River council has approved a new Business Licence By-law.

Economic Development Officer for the Town, Jodi Dawson says there are a couple of changes from the previous by-law.

"We no longer have a 'store front' and 'home occupation' business license, we've merged those and we have one 'residents' license, at the same rate," she says.

Businesses from "out of town" now become "non-resident" businesses and the "student" category is now called the "youth" category.

"Over the next two years our marketing efforts are going to be actively targeting the 18 to 25 year old demographic, inviting young people to plant and grow their roots here," Dawson says. "Encouraging young entrepreneurs with this simple strategy will attract positive attention and help to position High River as a community where young people can thrive."

A 'monthly' option and rate will be added for seasonal businesses while a 'good neighbour discount will be available for Foothills MD residents.
