High River' RCMP Detachment is the proud owner of the Town's latest mural.

Painted by Highwood High School students Courtney Berlinguette and Portia Scabar, the mural depicts High River's past, It's ties to the RCMP, and incorporates local landmarks.

Berlinguette says it sprang out of a school project.

"We've all got to do a mural. We're in the professional studio, so advanced art. We've all got to do a mural at the school, this is the first time we've ever done it actually outside of school. And Ms. Deno, our teacher brought it up and I'm like, I'm doing it and she's (Scabar) coming. She doesn't have a choice she's coming!"

Scabar says they drew inspiration from their surroundings.

"Like, the things are around us. We live in High River, we live in Alberta. We have the RCMP. So all of those things just kind of brought the idea together. And then we put it up."

RCMP Constable Jill Mills says the idea for the mural came from a casual conversation with one of her co-workers.

"Wouldn't it be nice if we had a mural in our front entranceway to warm it up and make it more welcoming? Being I'm in the school resource position, so my mind always goes to how can we involve our youth of High River? So I thought, hey, I wonder if Highwood High with their art program would be interested in partnering with us? They jumped on it! They were more than happy and very supportive to make this happen."

The pair were presented with certificates and $100 cheques from the Town for their work.
