A brand new room on the second floor at the High River Hospital will bring a lot of comfort to families.

The hospital hosted an open house for their new long term care family palliative room on Wednesday, February, 28th.

Susan Dowdall, retired manager of long term care says this is a special room.

"This was a room that the vision was created in 2016," said Dowdall. "Through the feedback from families and residents for the need for more additional comforting space. Not just for the palliative end of life journey but also for other uses."

One lady used it recently to have a birthday celebration with her grandson. It gave them a quiet space to share a cupcake.

"It has multi-purposes. We really hope as we go forward and we are all on this journey together, that we are providing caring, dignified respectful space. And that we are helping to make meaningful moments. That is the essence of the room."

Bob Collins first vice president and service officer with the High River Legion says they were happy to help raise funds needed to make the room a reality.

"We always ask them to give us a wish list. And from that list which we would pick so about two years ago it came up about the palliative room so we decided to do that," said Collins.

The room will be used for a variety of events including moving new families into care, having private space for families to visit in and of course end of life care.
