The Rowan House in High River is looking forward to launching a new program in the months to come.

The Community Host Homes Program will allow community members from the Foothills to volunteer their homes to families and individuals who are transitioning out of the emergency shelter, and into the community.

Sherrie Botten, Executive Director, says this new program will address issues encountered after leaving the emergency shelter.

"What we are developing is a program called Community Host Homes, and it really is to address the problem that when women and children are leaving the emergency shelter, they don't often have safe and affordable places to go."

Botten says this one-of-a-kind program aims to ameliorate this issue by having community members volunteer their homes as a safe and stable place to support these individuals and families.

Volunteers will be matched with an individual or family in a case specific manner in order to find the best fit, both for the hosts and the hosted.

Those who choose to volunteer their homes will receive training and support from Rowan House staff.

If you are interested in volunteering, call the Rowan House at 403-850-0585, or email brigitteb@rowanhouse.ca for more information.
