A recent report to council on recreation facilities came with a price tag of about $50 million.

Mayor Craig Snodgrass says that's just not realistic and a new stand alone pool may not be possible.

"The most cost effective way is to probably expand our existing pool facility, basically dynamite the one and build a new one in there and still have some lane swimming, a leisure pool of some kind," he says. "Building a stand alone swimming pool, we'd have to see what the cost benefit of that would be compared to the expansion."

He says residents need to look at what's needed compared to what's wanted.

"Where I think we can do a much better job for the youth of this community, and I do think that we need to take that as one of our major steps is providing better facilities for our youth," Snodgrass says. "The two big ones are a skate park and a BMX track. Both can be outdoor, not a lot of capital cost compared to other things and I think we've got available land to do it on we've just got to get  a group together to get it done."

He says once Spitzee Crossing gets developed around the Ag Grounds a new facility might be more feasible but that's quite away's away from happening yet.
