We've reached the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016 and that means a lot of people will be celebrating in one way or another.

If you are headed out, High River RCMP Sergeant Brent Hawker, is hoping you do it sensibly.

"We ask that people use care, they know that we're out there and that checkstops are certainly relatively common on New Year's Eve and High River will be no exception to that," he says.  "We ask that you have a designated driver or use a cab service to move about the community."

He says the tough economy means there may be more house parties than the usual big blowouts, but either way there will be checkstops out all night to make sure everyone stays safe.
