Folks coming to High River from around the M.D. of Foothills this weekend for the car show will have a chance to become crime fighters.

The Foothills Rural Crime Watch Association will be looking to sign up new members.

High River RCMP Constable Stacy Campbell says she can't stress how important it is for neighbours to keep an eye out for each other and to let police know about anything suspicious, even things that may seem insignificant.

"Particularly with the rise in crime that's going on in the rural area. Every little phone call, one little piece of information could solve a bunch of stuff for us. We do encourage people to call on even the slightest little thing. It could be nothing, but it could lead to something bigger and it could tie into five other files."

Members of the group will be "linked in" with the High River Mounties and be sent e-mail and text alerts of suspicious activities or other criminal happenings in the M.D.

It's $20 a year to join, with members getting signs for their property and access to all the information.

Crime Watch Association Membership Coordinator Corrie Fisher, says besides being able to "stay in the loop" members will get together for updates from other members and the RCMP a few times a year.
