Scholarships and awards were handed out Thursday, October 6, at Highwood High School to honour students and their achievements.

Bleford "Belf" Quon was on hand to present the Toy Quon Scholarship in memory of his Mother to Tyler Henry.

"She was an immigrant from China and arrived in High River in 1936. In 1981 when she passed away the family decided to set up the Toy Quon Scholarship."

Tyler was also the recipient of the BASF Chemistry Scholarship, the Governor Generals medal and received a nomination for the Schulich Leadership Award.

The Quon family have been presenting scholarships to deserving students for thirty-four years.

Sherri Henry, Tylers Mom was one of the many parents on hand and she couldn't have been happier with her son Tyler.

"We're extremely proud of him. It's all him, he has always loved learning and achievement and does his best."

Tyler says any of the students would be just as deserving.

"It's a big honour to be recognized out of my class. I've known most of them all my life and any one of them deserves this as much as I did. I'm just proud to be accepted and this gives me more confidence going forward."
