Despite the optimism of a new year, local business are still finding their confidence a little shaky here in High River.

Chamber of Commerce President, Steven Muth, says with federal and provincial elections this year, things could change, but it won't be fast moving change.

He says what would really help is if government's would just get out of the way of business.

"And then business will find it's own balance point to be successful. And until we see as business owners, until we see the governments doing something positive for businesses to generate that confidence in the general economy, we don't have a lot to be positive about."

Muth says he's not seeing a lot of confidence across the entire spectrum of small businesses right now.
