A special air quality statement for the local area has been ended.

High River Fire Chief Len Zebedee says the town has no plans to issue a fire ban at this time in High River.

"Well we certainly looked at it and considered it, but for the small amount of campfires we have in High River, we haven't had a lot of issues," he says. "We didn't feel it would contribute to the smoke that's rolling in from other areas."

As fires continue to the West of us, he says him and his department empathize with those firefighters.

"Our hearts and our thoughts are with those guys and gals out there fighting these forest fires," he says. "It is a little different than fighting structure fires, but certainly they are in danger and put themselves in danger every day."
