More and more of us are finding our personal information is being put at risk through cyber attacks.

David Swan with the Cyber Intelligence Defence Centre in Vulcan says it's not just on your computer or phone you have to watch out for attacks on.

"One of the attacks that's in the marketplace is on the cash register, or point of sale systems, where you're giving information to the merchant. There's all kinds of ways for the bad guys get in there and steal the information. So, yes, technically, you are at risk every time you make one of those transactions."

Swan says hackers aren't really going after credit card companies like Visa, Master Card or American Express, when they can get basically the same information from a retailer at a much lower risk.
