There are still some properties in High River that will be going up for auction at the end of May.

Chief Financial Officer for High River, Kola Oladimeji says since the last town council meeting in March the number of properties in arrears has gone down.

"Yes, after the town presented to council two weeks ago, we had seven properties but since then four property owners have come up to pay off, so we are down to two now."

Oladimeji says property tax auctions have proven to be a very effective strategy.

"Yeah it has been very effective. When we started this a year ago we had close to twenty properties on the list. But, when they see that the Town is serious and they want to follow the law to recover the tax arrears, so everybody started coming up. So it's a good process for municipalities to recover the tax arrears."

Oladimeji says those who would like to participate in the auction must come to the Municipal building in High River on May 31, at 10:00 AM.

Oladimeji added that it's possible the auction may not happen at all.

"Like now, you know we started with seven, we're down to two. And the property owners still have an opportunity to pay it off until the day of the auction."
