A local man has won a prestigious award and title within the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta.

Stephen Clark, CFO of Mullen Group in Okotoks, was nominated for the CPA Fellowship Award by his peers.

Clark says there was three major requirements that he was judged on in order to receive the honour.

"There are a few criteria for it, one of them being achievements in your professional career, also they think about what you've done for the profession," Clark said.

In his nearly 30 years of accounting experience Clark says he's worked extremely hard.

"I've volunteered for the profession many times over the years but they also judge on what you've done for your community, and again, I've done lots of volunteering in the community, and it's something that's near and dear to both my wife and I's heart."

Chris Pilger, Director of Communications for the CPA says they have nearly 28,000 members here in Alberta, and only 400 of those members are considered 'Fellows'.

The Fellowship title will change Clark's title, but not his work ethic.

"So instead of being a CPA, now I'm an FCPA, which means a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants, or the CPA of Alberta."

Clark says nothing about his day to day work will change and thanks his team, for making this privilege possible.

"Day to day, nothing really changes. I'm still going to be here, working hard for our shareholders and working hard to volunteer for our community, but I don't think in many respects it changes my life. It sure is an honour, and I'll tell you it's been a privilege. You don't get to be one of the best in Alberta without having a good team."

Over Clarke's 30 years, he says his most current accomplishment has been working with the Mullen Group in Okotoks, being part of an exceptional executive team, and also his run as a Town Councillor in Okotoks.
