The 9th Annual Charity Checkstop is working to make Christmas brighter for those in need.

Okotoks Municipal Enforcement and RCMP, MD of Foothills Fire Services and EMS are coming together again to help Victim Services, the Okotoks Food Bank and the Rowan House.

Kai Kleckner, municipal enforcement officer, says it's great to help support local groups.

"Victim Services does a lot for the community when there's fatalities and car crashes," he says. "The Rowan House is really good service... it's a women's shelter out in High River that can help women when they need it and it's good to be able to try to raise some funds to help them be able to do the work that they do."

Both monetary donations and food donations will be accepted at the check stop.

Kleckner says he'd like to see this year top what was raised last year.

"I believe we raised about $7,000 last year and approximately six to seven truck loads of food and every year we try to beat our target from the year before so hopefully this year we can beat that."

The Charity Check Stop will take place on Dec. 3 from 2-4 p.m. on Milligan Dr. adjacent to the Okotoks Recreation Centre.
