When Okotoks Council made the trip to Edmonton for a conference a few weeks ago, they were able to meet with a few new members of government, including Minister of Municipal Affairs Deron Bilous.

Mayor Bill Robertson says Bilous will be instrumental in helping the Town secure funding for the Calgary water pipeline through the Water for Life foundation.

"Whether they still have a program with that name on it, or they call it under something different, we're still quite anxious to discuss Okotoks' needs regarding potable water for Okotoks through a water pipeline."

Robertson says while they did get the ball rolling on the matter, Council understands Bilous has a lot on his plate right now.

"His words were that with the amount of information being thrusted at them right now, he said it's like drinking water out of a fire hose, it's coming fast and furious," he says. "And we do need to give them time and respect that they are a new government, and they need time to get up to speed."

Robertson says it will take some time, but he's confident the NDP government will help facilitate the water pipeline, and other needs for the Town.

"We're certainly trying to facilitate and give citizens a great place to live, raise a family, and enjoy their retirement," he says. "I think that this government is going to work to those ends, and I look forward to working with the provincial government."
