The Town of Okotoks is showcasing the progress they've made with local projects in the 2016 edition of the Community Report.

The report highlights topics like infrastructure, On-It Transit, environmentalism, and annexation.

Joan Botkin, communications manager for the Town, says the success of the universal recycling program stands out to her in the report.

"About 829 tonnes of waste was diverted, so 500 tonnes from the blue recycling carts and over 300 tonnes of compost. That's significant and really says a lot for our citizens and how involved they are in thinking about environmentalism."

Botkin says the report is important to keep communication open with residents so they know what the Town is up to.

"A lot of initiatives are based on feedback from our citizens and their priorities so to have that dialogue going back... they've put out what they'd like to see done and then to see how we're progressing on those initiatives they've identified."

Looking ahead at the report for 2017, Botkin adds she's looking forward to the further inclusion of projects like the development of the Community Campus on 32nd Street with the K-9 school being built by the Foothills School Division and the twinning of Pason Centennial Arena.
