The Town of Okotoks is encouraging residents to get involved with its boards, committees, and commissions.

Each year a few term positions become available for residents to hop on board and get involved with council by attending committee meetings and bringing recommendations forward to the town.

Patty Huber, assistant municipal secretary, says there's multiple committees people can get on board with.

"There's probably about 12 or so different committees that span all the areas of our towns structure," she says. "They range from culture, parks and rec, to  public safety and security, municipal planning commission, the library board..."

The Town is also looking for youth to sign up on four of the committees and be part of the Town's decision making.

Huber says there a few things involved with being a committee member.

"Members need to be able to attend at least one meeting per month," she says, "They would be asked to read through their agenda and know what's in their package and what sort of items are being discussed and come prepared to discuss them and go forward with some recommendations to council."

The deadline to sign up is Sept. 18. An online application can be found by clicking here, or residents can send a letter of interest accompanied by a resume addressed to Town Council stating ATTN: Patty Huber.
